Amazon Vintage Review

Do you ever see a dress online and fall in love only to see the price and think that it’s too good to be true? Often times people who see vintage inspired garments on Amazon find themselves going through that same thing! It can be difficult to know when you’re getting a good deal on a great dress or buying a cheap Halloween costume. Fortunately for you I fear nothing as I’m still 17 and therefor invincible! I bought three “vintage” dresses off of Amazon so that you all could see for yourselves what they have to offer.

The Dresses

As I said above, I bought three dresses; one GownTown, one Grace Karin, and one Wedtrend. Unlike as I said above, I am scared of things, especially bad clothes so I was anxious for their arrival! When they arrived I was ready for disappointment. I had yet to believe that good quality at low prices was possible if not thrifted! Luckily for me, you, and the vintage lovers of the world, I was in for a pleasant surprise.

GownTown

The dress I was most anxious and excited for, the GownTown. It’s a stunning warm mustard color with the cutest collar. The dress itself was true to size and looked as close to the picture as I had hoped. The dress comes in sizes Small – XXL and in 10 variations at the price point of $28-$36.

The Good

  • The dress looks like the ad and is very soft!
  • The sleeves are a very comfortable length that don’t ride up on chubbier arms such as mine.
  • I was very concerned that the collar was going to flap up and have to be pinned down as other dresses I’ve had in a similar style have but it was just fine!

The Bad

  • The polka dots are that sort of plastic-y material that they use to put decals on cheap t-shirts which isn’t necessarily horrible, I just imagine it will have to be hand washed very gently.
  • In terms of the material, 95% polyester and 5% spandex, I was a little disappointed. It’s a very soft and comfortable dress but the texture of it reminds me of one of those big parachutes you would play under in gym in the 5th grade.
  • Wrinkle prone.
  • Hugs some of those unflattering curves due to how contouring the material is.

Authenticity

The dress is marketed as a 1950’s, Audrey Hepburn style. I wouldn’t say it’s spot on Audrey but I feel like her name is used to describe anything 50’s themed these days. The length is more 40’s then 50’s as it stops right above the knee for me and I’m not incredibly tall at 5’7.5. The neckline is obviously very 50’s as it’s one of the most common to see reproduced. The bow on the back isn’t era inaccurate but I feel can give it a cheesy feeling if not styled right.

Overall

In the end for it’s price I think it’s a great dress! It’s incredibly light weight feeling and is perfect for spring and summer. I think it could use a wider size range and more accurate variations so as to make it look more trustworthy. Overall I give it a 8/10!

Grace Karin

One word to describe this dress: versatile. I love this dress, the second I put it on I fell in love! It’s such a flattering cut and seems to be the prefect dress for most to all events. This dress comes in sizes XS-4XL and 39 color/pattern variations at the price of $28+.

The Good

  • Very comfortable and soft cotton blend material with a very vibrant and cute pattern.
  • The neckline is high but not high enough to make you feel as though you’re being slowly strangled.
  • Came with a cute belt that is super adjustable.

The Bad

  • The pattern matching at some of the seams is kinda wonky.
  • If you have thicker arms such as myself you might get some armpit chub action.

Authenticity

Just like the last it’s advertised as a 1950’s dress. It’s neckline and silhouette are great for the era but like the last it also hits right above the knee. Not to say there were NO knee length dresses of the 1950’s but it’s a lot more common and accurate to see them hit anywhere below the knee. I think the particular pattern I chose is fairly accurate for the tropic, beachwear of the era.

Overall

It’s an amazing dress at an even more amazing price point! I would absolutely buy another of this dress with no hesitation. It’s practical and reliable for any occasion. Overall it get’s a 10/10 from me!

Wedtrend

Now this dress I thought looked quite cheesy in the pictures but alas it is marketed as a 1950’s dress. It’s cute enough however comes off more as a dress you would buy just as you’re getting into vintage fashion or for a costume. This dress comes in sizes xs-3XL and 12 different color variations for $30.

The Good

  • Super soft, slightly stretchy, cotton blend material.
  • Cute buttons and button trim.
  • Nice rich color.
  • Good silhouette without a petticoat.

The Bad

  • Weird sleeve length creates awkward pit action as well as just kind of floats around your shoulders.
  • While the buttons are cute it makes the dress look very childlike.
  • Wrinkle prone.
  • Looks semi-cheesy.

Authenticity

Again marketed as 1950’s dress this dress does a decent job of living up to that. The dress has a good silhouette and the collar makes a great touch. Decorative buttons weren’t uncommon in the 1950’s however these one’s just have cheap look to them that give the dress a less authentic feel. In order for this dress to look authentic I feel you would need some good accessories and period accurate hair.

Overall

All things considered this isn’t a bad dress just not my personal choice for a cheap reproduction dress. It’s definitely cute and practical for daily wear or more casual events. It gets a 7/10 from me!

Conclusion

In conclusion there are plenty of cute options for cheap reproduction dresses on Amazon and as long as you look at the reviews you can get a pretty good feel on which ones are worth it or not. If you’re interested in any of the dresses above you can find them at these links! I am in no way associated with these brands and these are all my real genuine opinions. Thank you for reading!
